Voices of the Arctic – is a 2022 feature-length documentary directed by Ivan Vdovin.

The film is an extensive journey beyond the Arctic Circle, intertwining the mysteries of shamans, life in the arctic desert, and the struggle of indigenous peoples to preserve their traditions and culture. The protagonist, Moscow-based DJ and sound producer Denis Simachev, embarks on an expedition through the Russian Arctic in search of unique musical chants.

Viewers are immersed in the lives of the native northern peoples, learning about their customs, everyday life, and ethnic music. The film premiered on June 9, 2022, and was shot in locations including Yamal, the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

Most of the filming in Yamal took place in the village of Yar-Sale and the Yarsalinsky tundra. During the expedition, Denis Simachev recorded over 12 ethnic voices, which formed the basis of the musical album "Arctic" and a collection of vinyl records.

The film is composed of three separate stories connected by Denis Simachev’s journey. It provides an in-depth look at the life of indigenous northern peoples, their traditions, and everyday life, featuring the unique musical chants recorded during the expedition.

"Voices of the Arctic" has received positive reviews from audiences and critics, who noted its profound exploration of the culture and traditions of Arctic peoples, as well as the high quality of cinematography and sound design.
